The Great Zimbabwe Civilization

 


The great Zimbabwe is a ruin city in South Eastern hills of present day Zimbabwe. It originated from the people of Mpugubwe who moved to settle on Zimbabwe plateau in the early 11th Century, same time the construction of the stone wall began. Zimbabwe is considered as one of the first advanced civilization in South Africa and its advancement was partly due to the movement of the Bantu people of Mpugubwe who introduced the knowledge of agriculture and iron metallurgy.

Zimbabweans were known for their advanced masonry techniques in stone building. Can e paintings, arrow head pottery and pebbles (stones/stools). Their economy is based on cattle husbandry, crop cultivation and mining of gold. The decline of Zimbabwe started from trade decline, exhaustion of gold mines, political instability, farmine and water shortage induced by climate change.

Contributions Of Zimbabwe Civilization.

They were involved in agriculture

They were skilled in building on stones

They had surplus availability of gold in the hinterlands

They were skilled in stone tools, crafts, and they made made numerous stone figurines.
